Advertising can be a difficult thing to justify, as you can spend hundreds of pounds trying to advertise your business with nothing in return. This effectively means you working days for free which no-one wants to do. The problem is, without advertising you will be sat at home with nothing to do and loosing money this way.

If you're a new business, or looking to increase the number of enquiries you have, then read on and we'll look at the lower cost ways to advertise. Everything we list in this article will be for less than £100 per month spend. A figure which even the smallest sole traders can manage, especially if that can be more than paid for by one extra days work per month.

Advertising for a painter and decorator

Most effective and low cost marketing for a Painter and Decorator

In our experience at Small Business Website Designs the two best (low cost) ways to market your business are as follows. It also just so happens that one is free and one is paid.

Painter and Decorator Advertising

Our favorite option is an advert in a business advertising booklet, which is usually posted to around 10'000 homes in an area every 1-2 months. The costs fluctuate and you can choose from a small advert upto a full page advert. We usually look at a half page advert and this usually equates to around £80 per month. The business booklets always deliver customers and it's a great standalone way of getting customers. No need for a website or email or anything like that, just a simple phone number will do. The companies can create a simple advert for you or you can make your own and send it to them. For £80 a month it's hard to go wrong.

Another option is a Google Business Profile. If someone searches for a Painter and Decorator then it will show the Painters and Decorators in their area. If you create a Google Business Profile then you will show up in the results. The aim is to get into the top three for the area as this will ensure you get the most leads. How you do this is for another article, but it can be very important for your business.

Other ways to advertise for a Painter and Decorator

Another great way to advertise is to deliver leaflets. This can work surprising well. We would however suggest that you be patient a drop leaflets more than once in an area. It's been shown that delivering leaflets once offers little return. However, do it two or three times so customers get familiar with your company and you can see a much better returns for your efforts.

The favored option for most Painter and Decorators is to advertise on social media. This can be a great way but it does have it's drawbacks which you should be aware of. The first drawback is time. Posting and posting on social media takes longer than you think. Especially if you're trying to get your post to look at least semi professional. The other drawback is you can do alot of posting across a number of channels but your advertising to people well outside your service area. Make sure your efforts are going to local customers and the content your creating is going to convert people into customers. Remember, advertising is to gain customers and thats all. Anything else is a benefit but the customer vs time vs money ratio should be monitored as not only money but your time is valuable.
